Thorough, well-researched, and constantly fascinating. His strong grasp of the material conditions surrounding the production and consumption of each song reveal amazing insights into why the history of rock developed the way it did, for example how a strike by musicians in the early 40’s resulted in the dearth of early bebop recordings and contributed to the rise of Frank Sinatra and other crooners. Highly highly recommended.
