Description
This event highlights the International Women’s Poetry Movement, Anchorage Chapter and the theme, “Woman Scream”. Hosted by Itzel Yarger-Zagal, people from all walks of life are encouraged to share their own poetry and/or that of other women poets. Instead of offering bilingual or translated poems, readers will explain the meaning of their poem and then recite it in the poem’s original language. Poems in English can be recited, too. Other highlights include: Gabriela Olmos will be awarded the Sor Juana Ines de la Cruz Alaska Award 2019 and there will be live performances by Isabel Azpilcueta and Javier from Mariachi Agave Azul. Poetess Jael Uribe founded the Mujeres Poetas Internacional (MPI) Inc., or Women Poets International Movement, in 2009 in the Dominican Republic.
