Thoughts...
It’s hard to tell what the speaker feels is the root of singleness for women (and men I guess) but it’s a way to make peace with it and look outside of relationships for happiness. It’s important to point out that this shift is more of a social systemic result rather than something to do with the individual. This is the first time in history where people can autonomously marry for love if they choose. Society is structured radically different than from our grandparents. I mean my grandmother wasn’t wandering around wondering who she was she was too busy surviving and supporting her family in a production economy (agriculture and factory work) yet that came with it an unbreakable certainty. Now we have all the choices but no certainty. And the lack of certainty has created a population of people where conversation around your life choices has substantially increased. I like this podcast as a way to gain perspective yet I don’t think this trend has anything to do with the individual and much more to do with the economy. I’m a true romantic...ya!

I don’t remember how I found Shani’s writing, probably through Refinery 29, but ever since I read a story of hers about moving when you’re single, I’ve been obsessed with everything she published. I’m so happy she has a podcast, the material she covers is hilarious and necessary! Thank you Shani!
