“I learned about Across Generations from a Therapy for Black Girls episode. I’ve enjoyed catching up on the episodes but had to pause during Daddy Issues. I understand the desire to depict Black men in a positive light but not at the expense of the offspring of Black men who intentionally had children and abandoned them leaving single mothers to fend for themselves.
The episode, in some respects, felt like a slap in the face. I couldn’t relate to any of the stories. I was left wanting more stats such as how many Black men who are active and present are with non-Black women and how many of these men were with non-Black women divorced/left them and came back to the community. There are many more stats that could have been shared to paint a true picture and to properly prepare the listener.
As a 60 year old who was abandoned by her father and who left a 30 year marriage to a narcissistic and verbally abusive Black man who was toxically present, I applaud the effort.
I was recently blessed to sit with an “Across Generation” of Black women at a tech conference during lunch. We were drawn to each other and organically discussed similar topics as your podcast. As the elder, before going our separate ways, I shared your podcast with the ladies who were eager for validation and a broader community. They appreciated the gift. Unfortunately, we didn’t take a selfie but we exchanged contact info. Our time together was well worth missing our conference session. ❣️
Keep on keepin’ on! I appreciate you and the show.
