“I came upon “Addicted to the Mouse” almost two years ago when my family and I started planning a Walt Disney World (WDW) trip. It would be the first visit in years for me and the very first time for most of our group. With extended family joining my wife, our two young kids, and me (doubling our group size), I knew I had my work cut out in planning this as the unofficial group leader—fortunately, as a former Army officer and “Disney Adult” (like Dan!), I was excited for the mission… However, it had been nearly decade since I last “conquered” a WDW trip, and that was only with my wife (read: no kids or in-laws, and amidst the simpler, dream-like days of FastPass+). To prepare for the increasing complexities of a Disney World trip—and perhaps because I also like planning adventures—I tried MANY Disney travel podcasts, including other popular and highly-rated ones. While generally decent, they all felt like they were missing something. However, something “clicked” when I found “Addicted to the Mouse.” After hearing one episode (one of their “Ranking the ‘Must Dos in” a park episodes), I was hooked and subsequently consumed 100+ episodes in the months leading up to our trip. Whether I was working out in the gym (listening to a WDW podcast, unbeknownst to the fellow tough Soldiers around me) or walking my dog in the Siberian-tundra-like icy winds of Southwest Oklahoma (one of the less “exotic” military locales), this podcast provided not only a helpful guide but also a welcome, immersive escape within every episode. By implementing Dan and Leslie’s countless expert planning tips, our trip was a huge success and created memories that will last a lifetime for all in our group. While any Disney trip is exhausting and often hectic, I knew what to expect and had the latest pro-tips from this show; my family members repeatedly wondered out loud how I was such a great, magical “tour guide.” This show stands out from others for 3 main reasons: First, it is clear that Dan and Leslie Lowry put in a LOT of time and preparation to make every episode a well-produced, organized, and thoroughly enjoyable listen for their wide array of audience members. I personally appreciated their many relevant stories of taking their two kids on Disney trips, from crazy toddler days through teenage years to now almost-adulthood(!). However, they are far from “one-trick-ponies,” and their content is relatable and insightful to all, whether you’re about to lead a trip for a large group of family, going with a friend or loved one, or traveling by yourself… or simply looking for a nostalgia-filled, Disney escape. Second, their delivery is unmatched and instantly endearing. Their voices are both truly pleasant to listen to—we’re talking professional TV/radio host “silky smooth”! And their cute back-and-forth banter, their obvious joy for what they do, and their inspiring love for each other are all evident throughout. Finally, and most importantly, the “why” behind what they do should convince you to give them a watch or listen. Dan and Leslie are guided by a mission to share their passion for all things Disney and help others navigate the overwhelming aspects of planning a trip. Although they own a travel agency specializing in Disney (and Universal), it is clear that this podcast isn’t merely to support their business but perhaps the other way around; instead, it is clear that their business is just another way for them to pursue their important mission to help others discover magical travel experiences. Ultimately, what makes their content so special is what makes Disney World special: a desire to transport the audience to a world of joy and adventure and a drive to constantly seek innovative ways to keep doing that… It’s as if Dan and Leslie secretly captured some of that “Disney magic” and “pixie dust” to spread across their own content. Walt himself would be proud. I will close this review by noting that Dan and Leslie are also “the real deal” as people. On our trip last year, they gave up their free time to brave an Orlando downpour just to link up with us (though unfortunately, Orlando airport delays stopped that plan). Mind you, we weren’t even their paying clients, just grateful listeners. I remain a grateful listener, but also—I hope soon—a future client of Dan’s and Leslie’s. Not just because of what they do but also because of why and how they do it. Thank you, both. Keep doing what you’re doing; it’s appreciated by more than you know!”
