Amazon CEO Andy Jassy has revealed that the company is developing a more “generalized and capable” large language model (LLM) to power Alexa. During Amazon’s Q1 earnings call, Jassy stated that the updated LLM would help the company towards its goal of building “the world’s best personal assistant.” The LLM, like ChatGPT, is a deep learning algorithm that can recognize, summarize, and generate text and other content based on knowledge from enormous amounts of text data.
While Amazon already has an LLM powering Alexa, Jassy believes that an improved LLM would enhance Alexa’s capabilities, but admits that it will be challenging to achieve across multiple domains. Jassy stated that the advent of large language models and generative AI makes the underlying models more effective, which accelerates the possibility of building the world’s best personal assistant.
