Meta, formerly known as Facebook, has launched an open-source AI model named ImageBind, which combines six different types of data, including thermal, visual, text, audio, depth, and movement. While this research project has no practical applications for consumers yet, it demonstrates Meta’s interest in the future of generative AI systems, which can create immersive, multisensory experiences. The concept of this research is to link various data types into a multidimensional index, or embedding space, which underpins the recent boom in generative AI.
