By researching John Muir’s journal entries, historic writings of explorers, and interviewing Tlingit elders and tribal descendants, author Daniel Lee Henry reveals how the early principles of land conservation and Christianity had profound consequences for the Tlingit people and led to a policy that would ultimately dispossess Tlingit peoples, and other Alaska Native peoples, from their ancestral lands.
