Personally I have never met or even heard about anyone who has attained the status of Eagle Scout who was not successful in life. And this week's guest, Mayor Ethan Reynolds of New Carlisle, Ohio, is no exception. At the age of 19, having just graduated from high school, Ethan was aghast that his city was about $5.6 million in debt and not doing anything about it. So he ran for city council on a platform of financial responsibility using the slogan of "We were borrowing money and no one was speaking for the average citizen" -- and won! And, over time and through Ethan's leadership, other Libertarian-minded people also ran for and won positions on the city council such that, when he stepped down as Mayor in May of 2019, the city had a budget surplus of $1.8 million.
