EP 18 - Forest Fires, Old Growth Forests, & Commitment to Change in the Amazon Rainforest
Description
Today is All Things Tree! Shelby and Anton discuss how the Canadian forest fires are affecting the rest of the world, how old-growth forests can actually help mitigate forest fires, and the commitment some of the largest cattle-rearing companies are making to protecting the Amazon Rainforest.
Segment 1: We all saw the orange skies over New York city, but how will the Canadian forest fires affect the rest of the world? Shelby and Anton discuss the consequences these large wildfires will have on other regions of the planet.
Segment 2: Planting new trees does not offset the destruction of old trees. Anton explains the various benefits of old-growth forests in comparison to new tree growth, including and how old trees can even help reduce the damages of wild fires!
Segment 3: Cattle-rearing is one of the largest causes of tropical rainforest destruction and largest producers of greenhouse gasses. However, several of the world's largest cattle companies are making a change. Tune in to learn more about this win for climate change!
