EP 11 - Intersectional Environmentalism, Malawi Climate Hackers, & Tara Houska, Activist Spotlight
Description
Intersectional Environmentalist Day was May 28th! To celebrate, Shelby and Anton cover stories surrounding BIPOC environmentalists, and explain what it means to be an intersectional environmentalist.
Segment 1: What is an intersectional environmentalist? Anton explains that intersectional environmentalism is the idea that climate justice can be achieved by amplifying historically excluded voices.
Segment 2: The climate crisis is affecting global agriculture, especially in Malawi, a country in Africa that has an economy heavily reliant on farming. Malawi farmers are now forced to create climate "hacks" to save their crops and their livelihoods.
Segment 3: Anton highlights the work of activist Tara Houska, an indigenous activist from the Couchiching First Nation. To find out more about Tara and support her missions, see the source material for segment 3 below.
