“I really appreciate this podcast. A lot. I think those who give it a low rating feel attacked. I get that. I’ve been to energy workers, a shaman, I have crystals at home. But, I also know a lot about the human brain and that there’s a lot in the alternative healing community that makes you feel good enough to think it’s the end all. It is, like everything else including evidence based medicine, to be viewed skeptically because of the vulnerability of our brains to chase the shiny things.
That said, the energy workers have reduced my pain way more effectively than any mainstream medicine has, but that is because they don’t have industry standards and a billing process to pump as many patients through as possible. So I get to have a significant amount of stress reduction from basically paying someone to listen to me, provide human touch/interaction/massage, and being at ease to follow our intuition on what may be the cause without the pressure and anxiety of not being right. That is a healing model that would probably do well to be transferred to your standard clinic.
That said, what he says is right. Without a rigorous testing mechanism in place, these products could kill someone. Example: This is why I hate bullet coffee. I and my son are carriers of MCADD. If he has a child with someone who carries or has MCADD, medium chain fatty acids raved about in bullet coffee could kill their child! It’s insane that this is touted as a life changer without any consideration or responsibility.
Both sides need to listen to each other. Both sides have good point. Both sides want healing to occur. Both sides have responsibilities they owe to those they affect. Both sides are not the end all.
I appreciate that the host bought and used a dry brush from Goop at the end. I would never shop there, but his willingness to listen and see all sides before dismissing (appropriately) is commendable. Try not to get so upset because he talks with authority. He’s a male Western doctor. It’s what they do.”
