It has been six years since Warren Farrell and John Gray published their groundbreaking book, “The Boy Crisis: Why Our Boys Are Struggling and What We Can Do About It.” A prominent feminist for many years, Farrell shifted his focus when he started noticing major gaps in the conversation about men and women’s issues. He’s written multiple books, including “The Myth of Male Power” and “Why Men Earn More.” In “The Boy Crisis,” the authors detailed how boys have been falling behind in many key metrics of success and happiness. Boys dropped out from school at higher rates, died from suicide and drug overdoses at higher rates, and committed school shootings at higher rates than girls. In this interview, I wanted to get an update from Farrell on where things have progressed since they wrote their book. We also dive into some key wisdom for strengthening relationships and communication from his latest book “Role Mate to Soul Mate,” in which he compiles his findings from decades of counseling couples.
