Embellished and Shallow
Despite my knowledge of Dr. Phil’s brand of psychology, I was hoping I’d hear a psychoanalyst’s perspective on Gypsy Rose Blanchard and Nicholas Godejohn when I listened to episode one. I thought “Could it be? He’s actually going to delve into the power imbalances, mental states, perhaps even debate the culpability of those involved?” And the answer was a resounding: “Hello, I’m Dr. Phil, here are my wild speculations and buzzwords: brutal, demonic, sinister, evil, shocking, savage...” Not much content between dramatic and even incorrect assertions. If you are a true crime junkie, skip this for sure. You get more nuance from a tabloid.

More reviews of Mystery and Murder
I love Dr. Phil and I love true crime but the dramatization and sensationalism here are a bit over the top. The narration style is more typical of a read aloud for middle schoolers. And yikes, “like you and I?” Someone needs to study objective/nominative case.

After I got past some of the over dramatic narration, it was a lot easier to tolerate. Enjoyed more when Dr. Phil stuck to the facts.
