“I’m a historian who specialized in Early Modern European Jewish Thought. When kaporos began, which was in Europe, the local rabbis knew it was being adapted from non-Jewish magical folk traditions. So they opposed it as superstition. They actually banned it. But especially in times of great stress, people will do what they want, if they believe it will help them. Kaporos is *not* in the Torah!
I’m not a vegetarian but I love animals and live where I can get meat that was raised on small, local farms. I hate kaporos — it is NOT KOSHER. Thank you for standing against it.”
