“Ok. So I’m gonna take my time because I’ve enjoyed this podcast so much! I cried in every single episode, because each one resonates with my experience as a Latino man.
I was born just before Selena died and never really listened to her music before. I never really understood why she was so beloved across our culture. But then I came out and memorized her songs and sang Si Una Vez raging while driving and then the curiosity hit me. The ‘97 biopic ain’t a complete story, so I opted not to watch the Netflix series but instead listen to this podcast.
And then it really stuck with me. I’ve learnt a lot about my culture and how Selena’s career has had an impact even in the way I perceive myself and in the work I do. I listened to it while a short trip I did to Mexico and felt every word and kinda felt Selena more alive than ever.
I applaud Maria’s as host and producer. I congratulate her for this amazing work which, for me, is truly a gem. Shout out to Futuro and WBUR and the amazing team behind this podcast. It really is honest and pure, it’s feels personal.
I loved it. I don’t want it to end. And I really think you should listen ❤️”
