“Generally I like this podcast, but I felt the guest on this episode was way off base. She made a comment that the reason teachers wanted to stay home during the pandemic was because “other professionals were able to stay home, and teachers wanted to, also.” This could not be further from the truth. Every educator I know - this from a retired teacher who now works in educational sales and talks with teachers every day - was concerned about bringing the virus home to their children and their extended family. Unless this was mentioned in the book, she also did not discuss the fact that schools have been plagued for the last two years with an incredibly vocal minority of parents who come to school board meetings and spout off about their children’s “freedoms“ being trampled because they’ve been asked to wear masks.
The author also mentioned how schools were open in other countries, but failed to mention that, in the vast majority of those countries, there wasn’t public outcry over preventative measures like masking, vaccines, and the like. Only in the United States it seems that parents are more concerned about their children having to wear a mask and less about fellow citizens - and their children - being safe from a deadly virus.
As I stated, in my opening of this review, I generally like this podcast. Do better.”
