Could be a great podcast if...
I’ve been listening to The Arrow Video Podcast for a few years now and would love to be able to warmly recommend it but one of the persistent flaws with the show, and one that could so easily be rectified, severely limits its effectiveness as a film discussion podcast and that’s the ludicrous choice to avoid plot spoilers for films that are decades old. Take for example the recent ‘What Have You Done To Solange?’ episode. This is a film from 1972 but Sam & Dan refuse to discuss the plot in detail due to this dumb spoiler avoidance rule. Sam even admits that he didn’t want to cover the film as the rule would make their discussion of it pointless as you can’t adequately discuss a film like this without going into detail about the plot. This is a 50 year old film! At least give a spoiler warning before discussing specific plot stuff and give the listener a choice to skip the section if they haven’t seen the film, then you can give a proper analysis of the film the episode is supposed to be about. What we’re left with is the skeleton of what could have been a great show but one that has very little meat on it. Such a shame as the hosts clearly know their stuff and I’m a huge fan of the Arrow label but the show that’s spun off from it has been sadly rendered inert. Please reconsider this daft rule and I’ll happily alter or remove this review. It also really doesn’t help things when they describe certain films from decades past as being “problematic”. Persistently negatively judging films from the ‘60s, ‘70s or ‘80s based on 2020s social justice ideology just smacks of pandering and virtue signalling. Fans of the Arrow Video label know what they’re going to get with the films Arrow release; edgy, often dark films made for adults. Shame the podcast hosts treats their audience like they’re children. Please do better.

I came here so tired of listening to movie podcasts that are Woke, that I came here expecting something as eclectic as Arrow to be a little more open minded. The first thing I hear is the De Palm movies Sisters and Dressed To Kill described as ‘problematic’. Ffs... They’re only problematic to...Read full review »

I’m a Arrow Blu-ray addict and this podcast is ideal for people with a similar obsession. The hosts are perfect, knowledgeable and passionate. For fans we should start a campaign to get Sam’s film Frankenstein’s Creature a decent distribution.

Sam and Dan have the great chemistry( and occasional dust-ups) of old friends. They are also passionate cineastes and every episode has me looking up interesting films eager to watch
