Disappointing but better than nothing
The podcast, in typical boba liberal fashion, never dives into any hard issues deeply or directly even during these troubling times. It’s as if the only issue Asians face is having a hard time breaking into the show business. Also you can tell some of the hosts are trying to hide their self-hatred and desire for white-adjacency while disclaiming their supposed Asian pride. It is okay to have these issues and they should work them out, but perhaps better have someone else who actually embraces their identity host a podcast that is supposed to give Asian Americans (Canadians?) a voice. A certain new host on Season 2 is a terrible choice for this exact reason but other hosts from S1 are also guilty to some degree. Then again, it’s hard to find another major podcast that talks about Asian issues in general. Also it is the LA Times so it needs mainstream liberal brownie points and avoid touchy subjects to survive. I hope the show does well enough to eventually go independent and find some real integrity.

As a first-gen Filipina, and a writer, these conversations shed light on so many different experiences for Asian-americans. Real experiences that aren’t necessarily or intentionally political. Wondering if a Q
