“Positive: I learned a lot about Romany culture, some of it deeply concerning (e.g., educational neglect as a cultural norm, the widespread practice of arranged marriages, and underage marriage).
Negative: The promotion of fortune telling as a cultural activity, rather than a con game, is troublesome. Victims of this con were given short shrift in this podcast. Paulina is portrayed as heroine, achieving “success” as a full-time fortune teller who markets herself as a “healer” - a deceptive business practice at best. An endnote about the dangers of this pseudoscience, and how people can protect vulnerable loved ones from victimization would have been nice.”
