Informative and relatable
Casey is an excellent teacher! Each episode gives valuable information based in science and research, tried and practiced in real life, illustrated with examples from her own family or client’s families, and explained in ways that help the listener comprehend and retain the information. Casey tackles listener questions and topics related to parenting a PDA child or teen through her lens of the disorder as a neurodevelopmental nervous system disability; her ideas, strategies, and advice are grounded in this framework, so once you understand the framework then you always understand the rationale for her interventions. I most appreciate how Casey uses her own concrete lived experience for her examples (often when they are self-deprecating) and this is what makes her message more impactful than that of a mental health clinician. As a psychologist myself I am trained to limit the extent to which I draw on my own personal experience to help clients, which keeps the therapy relationship safe and maintains the focus on the client. Casey pulls back the curtain and is refreshingly honest about her own life in a way that feels relatable and makes her message more meaningful.

In the midst of a really difficult time, Casey’s honest, pragmatic and positive approach has offered me hope! In recent weeks I have listened to the episode about acceptance over and over, like a mantra…it’s not a magic solution but it’s helped to ground and calm me. One of the (many) things I’ve...Read full review »
