“Question -
Many fans and media members have largely attributed Morgan Gautrat’s exclusion from the national team to “lack of consistency,” and “lack of playing time.”
So far this year, Gautrat has played her most NWSL games, she’s 3rd in the NWSL in net /- rating, 3rd on Chicago in key passes, she’s greatly improved her defense, and she is very important for her team (without her, the Red Stars lost 0-5 to Portland, but with her, they won 2-1).
But very few fans and media members are recognizing her, and almost no one is strongly advocating for her to be called up to the national team. When she has not been included on national team rosters, there has been no pushback at all, no one saying “Morgan Gautrat should get called up!” Why do fans and the media continue to ignore Morgan Gautrat?”
