Description
Veterans Memorial Lodge is one of five Broadmead Care homes in Greater Victoria.  An attractive, comfortable Home located in the pleasant Broadmead neighbourhood in Victoria, it provides long term care for veterans and seniors on Vancouver Island. On June 6th 2024, the 21st Annual Broadmead Care’s Charity Golf Tournament will take place at the Royal Colwood Golf Club. Joining me to talk about this year’s event is Derrick Bernardo (President and CEO of Broadmead Care) and Sean Midwood (Chair of the Golf Tournament).  We chat about the great work being done to support our many Veterans and the success of the golf tournament. Special Recognition: Mr. Rudolph “Rudi” Hoenson was a Second World War Veteran from Holland, a nuclear blast survivor, a prisoner of war for three-and-a-half years, and a philanthropist.  He spent part of his life giving back to charities that touched his heart.  Mr. Hoenson has donated millions of dollars to hospitals in British Columbia, and specifically he has given over 2.6 Million to the care of Veterans at Broadmead Care facilities in Victoria.  His kindness and his story has inspired many community leaders, businesses and donors to contribute.  See the link below for more about Rudi. https://www.veterans.gc.ca/eng/about-vac/who-we-are/department-officials/minister/commendation/bio/1649 Below are more links about the Charity Golf Tournament and more information on how you can support this worthy cause. https://www.broadmeadcare.com/golf/ https://www.broadmeadcare.com/donate-charitygolftournament/  Sound editing done by Todd Mason.
