Fantastic Introduction to the technical side of ai risk research
It’s early days, but if this keeps up, I think it’s safe to say that this is my new favourite podcast. I’ve been interested in ai risk for quite a while, but only started getting into machine learning from a hands on technical perspective in the past few months. This podcast is proving to be a great way for me to broaden my understanding, and get an idea what the current research field looks like in practice. Right now, I just barely know what a convolutional network design looks like, but I still found that I could understand most of the technical discussion on the podcast. That’s not to say they dumb things down, quite the contrary. The concepts are just explained so clearly by Daniel and his guests that I can follow along anyway. Maybe most important of all, the podcasts are fun. Daniel picks interesting papers to talk about. There’s great little tidbits thrown in that I didn’t know about before, and that make me laugh in delight. Like Daniel explaining, basically unprompted, how microeconomics research uses lottery tickets to get around the possible nonlinearity of the utility-money relationship. Just because it’s such a clever little thing, and he felt like he had to share it with the world. TL;DR: This podcast makes me excited to learn more about machine learning. Great work Daniel, keep it up.
