Morgoth sends his armies to attack the Noldor who succeed in driving back the attacking orcs. Fëanor pursues the retreating forces, hoping to find Morgoth himself. As he presses forward, he is surrounded by Morgoth’s forces, and is attacked by Gothmog, Lord of the Balrogs.
