Solomon Stoddard
I am the 10th great granddaughter of Solomon Stoddard. He is my paternal direct line. I do understand the feelings that Edwards had about the “Halfway Covenant”. However, we have to remember many of these Puritans were trying to appeal to a new generation of Christians. This was a very ingenious idea to reach those who were still feeling uncertainty about a “church” after leaving England. You have to give these Puritans much credit for there strength and dedication to find a safe place to practice their version of Christianity. I certainly know where I get my “always questioning” authority and what “they” say we must do. Had it not been for people like Solomon Stoddard, Eleazer Mather, Cotton Mather, & Jonathan Edwards, we’d still be part of the Church of England. Thank you for this podcast was excited to hear others speaking about my greatest grandpa Solomon.
