“Love the content, really like the hosts and appreciate their efforts. But I gotta say, I’m a little worried about the slow pace at which they are covering things. It’s been a while since I read the books, so I thought listening to these discussions would be a good refresher and I might pick up some things I missed, in a manner that is quicker than re-reading the thousands of pages. I was surprised to learn that they are covering one chapter per hour+ long episode. In other words, probably longer than it takes to actually read the books (granted, I can’t read the books while driving, etc.) I’m glad they are going deep, but at that pace it will take 7 years of weekly podcasts just to cover the books that are already out. I guess at least that’s true to GRRM’s style! It’s fun to listen to, but honestly I think it would be better if they covered 2-3 chapters per week at least. That would be closer to the pace at which people actually read, which might work better for the book club format. For an example of how slow the progress is, I accidentally let it auto-play after the last episode I had downloaded, and it played the most current episode and I literally did not notice that it had skipped 40 episodes, an entire year’s worth of podcasts! I listened to the entire episode and only after reading the label did I realize what happened. The narrative had barely progressed. And they’re still in the first book, when the story was fairly straightforward. I wonder if in 2026 or so when they get to ADWD and the story is much more complicated if they will go even slower. Anyway, I don’t mean to be a hater, I love the discussions and the hosts and will likely donate to the patreon. But I have the same concern with this podcast that I do with the book series: I hope I don’t die of old age before it finishes!”
