At this time in history there were only 3 nominees per category and there were was no category for supporting actor/actress. That did not happen until 1937 when Walter Brennan won for Come and Get It and Gale Sondergaard won for Anthony Adverse for supporting actor and actress (respectively). Diana Wynard and May Robson each give fantastic performances and frankly with 3 nominees it makes the Oscar race much more competitive.
