An Essential Resource from Two Insightful and Unique Voices
Equal parts informative and entertaining, Black& reminds us that engaging in, and especially for white folks, LISTENING TO difficult conversations about race from Black perspectives remains a vital first step toward dismantling white supremacy. As a white listener, I pondered new questions and am eager to discuss several of the complex issues raised in the first episode with my white friends and family members. I strongly recommend it to white folks looking for guidance on how they can work to dismantle white supremacy in their daily lives. I especially like the “action item” segment planned for the end of each episode. Additionally, April and Johnathan’s vulnerability and candor throughout make for fascinating and thought-provoking listening. As a professor, I find students are increasingly seeking accessible (yet still challenging) resources exploring how to combat systems of oppression, particularly in audiovisual formats. The ongoing conversations this podcast will likely elicit will greatly complement existing anti-racist and critical whiteness studies literature. Looking forward to future episodes!
