Media went nuts.  Defense Distributed, his website, was effectively shut downe State Department said having downloadable gun files violated international arms law. Wilson complied. Wilson would later take the fight directly to the federal government. Wilson sued them. He basically lost all early court challenges. Feds cut a deal with Wilson this year.
