Great topics, meh perspectives
I feel like this series is something I’ve been looking for; a combination of high profile families and their uncovered truths regardless of how dirty they may be. So I really appreciate you both for bringing it into the world! I don’t want to undercut your storytelling authority before finishing the rest of the episodes thus far, since I’ve just finished the Kardashian episodes. That said, I feel like it would be really important to report these stories from a more wholistic viewpoint. I can appreciate that entire books and series could be dedicated to analyzing the rise & domination of the Kardashians, so I understand that it’s a lot of material to fit in 2 episodes. However, ignoring that families’ complicity in multiple advents of modern society such as diet culture, blackfishing, inaccessible body images, cultural appropriation, the glorification of girlbossing, etc by just writing them off as “hardworking” and “good business women” is pretty harmful. Their success, as you mentioned, was calculated and strategic, but it has certainly come at the expense of many different marginalized communities. As a listener, I really hope that your research for these episodes maintains a well rounded approach to ensure that you’re narrating these stories in their full truth & earnest, regardless of your own personal worldviews.
