“I’ve been listening to the Photowalk for several years and enjoy every episode. Key is that the show is not about gear or how to make specific images but, instead, goes deeper to understand why people make photographs, to explore the experiences they have had as amateur and professional photographers, and to foster a sense of (digital) community.
Neale James (the host) fosters the community by very actively soliciting, and sharing, commentary from the listeners. There are regular ‘mail bag’ sessions where individuals who’ve written into the show can have their thoughts shared with the audience. Those people sometimes go on to be guests in future episodes which further deepens the sense of community amongst the listeners.
Neale is also a talented interviewer. He carefully researchers his guests and draws on his years of experience as a former BBC broadcaster both in weaving together the interview and the audio that accompanies the show. His experience is apparent in each of his interviews.
Finally, I think that this is really a great podcast to listen to while doing a photowalk. I listen to Neale and guests when I’m out making photos and it’s like having a regular friend chatting with you/around you, while you’re still able to focus on making the images you’re interested in for the day.”
