“please don’t underestimate how gruesome and disgusting sexual abuse situations can be. having the privilege to express that level of disbelief only tells me that you were safe from that particular disturbing horror. safe from being exposed to it through the media too.
that story about the donkey is not at all far fetched or uncommon. abusers can also involve animals in order to keep a child victim ashamed and quiet.
traumatized abuse victims reenact abuse from humans on someone weaker or some defenseless animal to take back control or even to vent - just like how child abuse victims might pose their barbies in explicit poses to act out what they themselves experienced. there are psychological reasons behind this.
the creators of this podcast were brave to address a very common taboo form of acting out as a result of sexual abuse.”
