“I’m so thrilled to have discovered this podcast! I Googled a storyteller from a recent “Spooked” podcast episode because I loved his story (and his accent!) and that’s how I found Caribbean Mystics. I’m a born and raised Californian and have been to Grenada once on holiday and that’s the closest I get to the Caribbean experience (other than what I’ve read in books and seen in movies) so I am learning so much about the culture and I absolutely looove it! The hosts are incredible. Not only do they have a lot to share about their culture and their family history but they’re knowledgeable about societal issues having to do with racism, sexism and socioeconomic disparities and much more such as the history of witch hunting. The storytellers (there are many) share Caribbean lore and magic etc. and the hosts break apart and explain some of the themes and backgrounds of each topic in detail and it’s fascinating! A lot of times it’s spooky (the music and sound effects are very well done) but oftentimes it’s very sad due the Caribbean’s horrific history of slavery. I love hearing the stories but what I really love is how similar my ideology and viewpoints are to the hosts’, despite us having such a different background and culture. Check it out, it gets better and better the more you listen.”
