Description
Black culture is diverse, and this can come with some challenges and division among the many subcultures included. On this episode, Bukie and Arielle invite two guests to the show to discuss how travel plays a role in uniting Black subcultures, like Africans, Black Americans, Caribbeans, and Afro-Latinos. In part 1 of this episode, we dive each of our first experiences with the division between Black subcultures and the root of those disconnects. We also discuss how experiences like Detty December and Carnival are bringing the Black community together, but may leave some individuals out.
Kevin Ojo is a Nigerian man who grew up in Ghana and now lives in the US. He established a company @thetravelclan_ to help the Black community explore countries across the African continent.
Ariel Barlow's experiences with Black subcultures while living in regions across the US, attending an HBCU, and visiting several countries in Africa gives her a unique perspective on this topic.
