“Chris and Reggie are the dynamic duo of comic history. They are a real pleasure to listen to. My ears have been opened to the many sides of comics. Topics covered include the comic code(highly recommend to set the groundwork for American comic history), underground comics, big event comics and genre comics. The topic is summarily beaten with factual minutia. They give a very balanced and non-judgmental take on fun and interesting subjects. It is easy to tell they love the medium.
The Cosmic Treadmill gives creators their due. They talk about the greats from mainstream comics like Grant Morrison and Jack Kirby to independent creators like Harvey Pekar(American Splendor), Richard and Wendy Pini(ElfQuest). They offer a bibliographical listing of the creators work if you are interested in looking up the creators. This also paints the picture of how accomplished the creator was or how they just showed up for the one issue.
They set the stage, describing the relevant political and social setting that the issue was published. If the book is controversial they will give the reasoning behind it.
The dramatic reading of the comic under scrutiny is the cherry on top. They have quite the talent. They affect an accent or gender if the story needs. I cannot say enough about these guys and their wonderful podcast. If you like history you’ll love this show.”
