“A host, a tactician and a historian. This is the trifecta that make up this unbeatable podcast. I began listening before I had a copy of the game they are covering and it was entertaining despite my knowing nothing of the specifics of this edition of Civilization.
The show has evolved a lot and improved at every step. There was an early cohost who didn't seem very nice, but was gone before it bothered me. Kyle the host brought on a Canadian history professor named Dan whose on air chemistry is much more complimentary. Dan's knowledge of history led to a weekly segment that I love called "Dan's historical moment." One of things I love about Civ is that it's the pc game version of historical fiction: Everything takes place in a historical context, but the details are enhanced for the enjoyment of the user. Dan's history lessons tie you in with your favorite characters, settings and wonders (of the world) in the game. Often leaders bonuses in the game tie in with actual historical events and Dan manages to ferret those examples out and share them with his listeners. It's really fun to see some of your favorite game pieces in a new light and appreciate that it has a place in our history.
After Dan's addition another great cohost came along called Wouter. He appears to be the best Civ player of the lot, but that doesn't matter much in the context of this podcast which is great because of the sum of all of its parts. Wouter's great skill is revealed when he offers his playing tip at the end of every episode. I have actively used his tips in the game now that I have it and it has made me a better player.
I should say something about Kyle Dempster the host and producer who brought this crew together. He keeps the show on track and is clearly a knowledgeable Civ player. He makes funny comments and does a great job of playing his two cohosts off of one another. He's the beating heart of the podcast and his chemistry is a necessary ingredient to its success.
My only disappointment about this show is the fact that after getting to listen to a couple at a time until I caught up I now have to wait for a week to hear my next episode.
Anyway, keep up the great work guys and thanks for a remarkable and informitive show!”
