Do something?
First, I want to say that I thoroughly enjoy the podcast on most levels. The host has a wonderful manner, and her basic concept of the show is excellent. There are, however, two criticisms I would very seriously make. One: why is it so necessary to force the “question” of “doing something” when you are listening to music? Is listening...without ironing, without cooking, without doing something...not enough? Does the music itself need something else - another activity- to warrant justification? I find this “what do you do when you listen to music” theme quite annoying; and it does indeed sell short the value of the art itself. Quite frankly, this notion encourages listening to - or viewing in the case of visual art - the unfortunate proposition that the art itself cannot be thoroughly enjoyed unless some other activity “tags along.” I just listened to a Mahler symphony...it would have been simply impossible to really LISTEN and, for example, change the oil in my car. The host needs to far better understanding why there is a tv station called “arts and entertainment.” This “doing something” while supposedly listening sells so very short the very art the host appears to respect. This attitude also reduces serious music of any style to “wallpaper”...Sit, pay attention to the music, hear the nuances, etc., and please understand you can’t do this with cheap earbuds running through a train station. The second concern is I’ve never heard the host credit the particular artist(s) who made the Recordings she chooses. This is inexcusable.

Wake up BBC! - you are patronizing your...Read full review »

Absolutely love this podcast. It has introduced me to so much new music and profiles brilliantly that classical music is diverse, exciting and far from one genre.
