A bit of warning would have been nice
The hosts discuss some really interesting topics, but I stopped listening partway through the third episode I had downloaded because of the preponderance of religious content - not of the topic matter, but I hadn’t realised (because there is no mention in the description) that the three hosts are teachers at a Christian private school in Texas, and it became quite obvious. I am interested in the ideas and tenets of a ‘classical education’ and the topics that they cover in various episodes, I am not interested in the private religious beliefs of said hosts. I was discomfited by the consistent reference to children’s souls in the first episode I listened to, but set it aside as a philosophical construct that was useful shorthand. That third episode devolved (in my mind) into a discussion of how “deep joy” can only be sustained in the presence of god (or something like that), and I just couldn’t listen any more. I think it would be useful to provide that background as part of the description of the podcast.

If you like the title of Episode 81, “Chaw, Sir,” you will like all the episodes in this podcast! This podcast is for anyone who read his or her humanities class assignments religiously but bought the Cliff Notes anyway (just for fun). I know you are out there!

This is the podcast that moves to the front of the queue on my iPod. It's hard to find people here who want to talk about classic literature or ideas, as opposed to recent best-sellers about female protagonists overcoming difficulties, so I really look forward to your podcast. (The Great...Read full review »
