A bit of warning would have been nice
The hosts discuss some really interesting topics, but I stopped listening partway through the third episode I had downloaded because of the preponderance of religious content - not of the topic matter, but I hadn’t realised (because there is no mention in the description) that the three hosts are teachers at a Christian private school in Texas, and it became quite obvious. I am interested in the ideas and tenets of a ‘classical education’ and the topics that they cover in various episodes, I am not interested in the private religious beliefs of said hosts. I was discomfited by the consistent reference to children’s souls in the first episode I listened to, but set it aside as a philosophical construct that was useful shorthand. That third episode devolved (in my mind) into a discussion of how “deep joy” can only be sustained in the presence of god (or something like that), and I just couldn’t listen any more. I think it would be useful to provide that background as part of the description of the podcast.

I’m an agnostic-atheist who loves classical literature/philosophy/history/etc. I love these guys. Their banter and commentary is relevant, funny and insightful.

Finding this podcast, that is full of clever and silly remarks about old stuff renewed my interest in the subject. Now I listen to them religiously...Read full review »
