Wonderful
I’m not sure if it’s the Irish lilt (as a Texan with an Irish surname) or the commentary, but Phelim and Ann are “delightful” to steel from Ann’s vernacular or fascinating to use mine. I save each episode for when I can really pay attention and savor the reenactment. Ann and Phelim (yes, I’m presuming too much familiarity, but oh well) are wonderful hosts. They’ve highlighted many interesting portions of an underreported trial over what in essence is over free speech. The vocal actors are good. Two highly minor critiques: Steyn does not have a rhotacism, yet the voice actor does. Perhaps that’s how an Aussie perceives a English educated Canuck (it’s better than I could accomplish for sure). But the timbre and the cadence are spot on. The second, I only listened to the livestream for closing arguments and was struck by the high pitched and thin character of the judge’s voice. No wonder jurors came in late. The strong voice actor used does not replicate the plaint and facile voice of the real jurist. While a humane person hopes for Steyn’s just victory, I do believe that the portrayals are fair and unbiased, and well reflect the goings-on in the court room. (p.s. I appreciate the comments about Scardy and Tom, I think. When I travel, it’s good to get back to my Gimli and Legolas, who are half brothers.)
