Engaging coverage of notorious Climategate defamation trial
The creators of the podcast and movie about abortionist/serial killer Kermit Gosnell have done it again. This time they are presenting the defamation case brought by climate scientist and activist Michael Mann against journalist Mark Steyn and analyst Rand Simberg. Steyn and Simberg in separate blog posts about a dozen years ago compared the sham investigation by Penn State into fraud by their star climate scientist to their sham investigation into sexual child abuse by Jerry Sandusky, a member of the university’s football coaching team. The podcast includes both reporting from each day’s proceedings and actor reenactments of the highlights of each day’s testimony and argument. The actor playing Steyn (who is representing himself) is tremendous. I can’t judge the other actors, because I have never heard the people they are playing, but they are all eminently listenable. Mann emerges from the early episodes as a bully who can dish it out as far as social media trolling, but is very prickly when anyone challenges his work. He dissembles regarding what Steyn and Simberg actually wrote about him, claiming they compared Mann to Sandusky. Actually, it is clear that they were comparing Penn State’s handling of the two investigations, not the conduct of Mann and Sandusky. But Mann doesn’t seem to be overly scrupulous about the truth, either in his scientific work or his representations to the Court. He even claims to be a Nobel laureate, which is patently false. And his lawyers, shockingly, misrepresent a kerfuffle outside the court house between one of the podcast reporters and the Mann entourage. So far, the podcast is dramatic and riveting. Hopefully free speech will prevail when all is said and done, although troll Michael Mann has already exacted a years long toll of cost and stress from Steyn and Simberg with his lawsuit. I recommend this wonderful podcast unreservedly. And while I’m at it, google Mark Steyn and follow everything he creates. You won’t be sorry.
