Separate research at Ren’aijiao Reef and Huangyandao Island in the South China Sea has revealed contrasting conditions in the marine ecosystems. The corals are dying, and the environment is deteriorating in the waters surrounding an illegally grounded Philippine ship, while conservation efforts are paying off near Huangyandao Island which is teeming with aquatic species.
