“One of my favorite podcasts! Been listening since the very beginning when you guys talked about the first Hunger Games. Love that Matt and Adam give their honest opinion on all films no matter what other critics and fans might be saying. You make the reviews feel more like a conversation and have great thoughts and insights. Keep up the awesome work!
Hot Take: Danny Boyle’s Sunshine (2007) is one of the most underrated Sci-Fi films ever made. In my opinion the film is nearly perfect till the 3rd act. The basis of the film seems similar to other save the world sci-fi blockbusters, but I find it does many fresh things with the characters, and is just visually stunning. Even more impressive is how good it looks with such a small budget. It was written by one of my favorite rising writer/director’s Alex Garland of Ex Machina, and the highly anticipated Annihilation. The film is really a character study about these people with a monumental task ahead of them that are isolated and struggling with their sanity. The film builds in its intensity as their situation worsens getting closer to the sun. There is so much atmosphere and emotion, and it is all bolstered by one of my favorite scores of all time by John Murphy. I love some as Boyle’s bold editing choices as well. It did very low numbers at the box office and most people have never heard of it. Almost anyone I show it to really enjoys it. It has remained one of my favorite films of the past decade.”
