Description
In this episode with visual artist Calli Moore, we discuss how her world view was flipped when she moved from rural Iowa to New York City. We discussed how this shift not only influenced her art making, but opened up new spiritual insights. We talked about some research that goes into her art making along with her creative process and the importance of getting into flow states. We also explored how her relationship to spirituality evolved from her exposure to the teachings of the late spiritual giant, Ram Dass.
--------------------------------------
Calli Moore is an American painter currently residing in Brooklyn, NY. Moore was born and raised in Iowa. Moore received her BFA from the University of Iowa in 2014 and her MFA from American University, Washington D.C., in 2016. Moore has exhibited work with notable galleries such as Library Street Collective, Harper’s, Gaa Gallery, Red Arrow Gallery, Deanna Evans Projects, and Deli Grocery. Through her luminous and rich flora compositions, Moore presents a reflective and transcendent experience of the natural world. Her paintings are deeply influenced by and speak to the spirituality of the environment, giving an aura of the divine. Moore's works are not fully abstracted, but highly stylized and symmetrical renderings, resulting in compositions that bring a sense of structure and sublime to her natural subjects. Her paintings are imbued with curvaceous forms and ethereal elements, instilling them with a feminine and celestial energy.
