Tocqueville on Democracy in America
I found this talk by Harvey Mansfield absolutely enlightening and helpful in understanding how our democracy depends on the people using their ruling power the right way. I loved the way Mansfield captured the essence of Tocqueville combination of aristocracy living within a democracy. I never realized the importance of Associations keeping our democracy healthy both for those people elect to represent them as well as keeping the rule of people on the right path. The example of using the building of a road in the middle of the forest to illustrate how our government and its hierarchy was built out of something that one individual could not do alone. The illustration of a moral compass by women accepting the marriage bond for survival was very thought- provoking . I could go on and on, but will close by thanking Bill Kristol for making these talks available and free for those like me that crave to be informed but could never afford to pay for this information . Everyone who finds our current political scene worrisome needs to go to Billykristol. Com. Thank you Harvey Mansfield for sharing your expertise and for Bill Kristol for making it possible. Cordially, Mary Healey
