Faith’s Dance with Doubt
I found this FM episode with Brian McLaren a most interesting exploration of simplicity -> complexity -> perplexity -> harmony. Though coming from a different Christian tradition, his faith journey parallels, at least in its early stages, the journey of many members of our church. And though my life’s journey is quite different from his, listening to him gave me deeper insight and compassion for those walking this path. The episode on FM prompted me to download his book “Faith Beyond Doubt” and listen to it on Audible. I found it fascinating and recommend it to those who may find themselves on a similar journey. He expands on many of the ideas he shared on the podcast and goes even farther in his journey. I’m reminded of the excellent book, “Faith is Not Blind” by Bruce and Marie Hafen. It deals with similar issues, though they write from an LDS perspective and use a three-step model for a faith journey, i.e. simplicity -> complexity -> simplicity beyond complexity. Perhaps you would consider inviting them to Faith Matters and interviewing them in follow up to Brian McLaren. Just a word to Tim and Aubrey, I also listened to your podcast on FM from “Listen, Learn and Love” with Richard Ostler. What an amazing story! What a remarkable journey! Thanks for sharing your stories and for being so authentic. Lord bless you both!

I LOVE this podcast!! This episode has helped me grapple with struggles I’ve been having with the church culture. I appreciated Brian’s comment that we think another group maybe more open and accepting but they’ll have issues, too. Really appreciate y’all bringing in a friend from another faith!...Read full review »

This podcast absolutely reeks of Moral Therapeutic Deism (a term coined by the sociologists Christian Smith & Melinda Denton to describe the religious affiliations of millennials). The podcast is stoking the tepid world views of people who are culturally Mormon, but have little interest in...Read full review »
