Description
The #CountryDuty team discusses initiatives and drives to address literacy at foundation level. Mpumelelo from Book Ibhoni (Book A Bicycle), who is the LeadSA hero for the month and Simnikiwe from the Citizen, talk about drives that they have started to encourage more South Africans to read books. Book Ibhoni gives bicycle tours in Soweto around Orlando, and give discounts on their prices when you donate a book, and the books are then donated to needy libraries. Simnikiwe - alongside her colleague Amanda - are in the process of starting a reading drive to Grade 4s in communities and are calling for volunteers from NGOs and publishing houses to donate books that young children in South Africa can relate to for reading sessions.
The #CountryDuty team speak to the founders of Rand Swiss, Viv Govender and Gary Booysens - alongside their resident economist Dumile Mzimela, on the technical recession and its effects.
