A mature conversation, please
I have had high hopes for the podcast “Critics at Large” and appreciate the work that Alexandra, Naomi and Vinson do in the magazine. I hope someone at The New Yorker will coach them on how to carry on a conversation, which this kind of podcast must be. Sure, critics are good at telling us their views, but in this forum they must also listen to the others without constantly interrupting or uttering a meaningless comment or, “like,” a grunt. I’ll keep listening for a while to see how it progresses.

More reviews of Critics at Large
Critics at large is the literary corollary to my three dimensional art class in art school. It’s open, dynamic and I can wander through it. It’s thoughtful, creative, enlightening and fun! I get to taste the culture and it prepares me for the meal!

Insightful, illuminating, charming and funny. But listen: block those skating metaphors. Slightly tacky. Otherwise, great discussion.

This podcast has the potential to be really good, but the hosts HAVE to stop talking over each other. Hoping this smooths out over time. But right now, episodes feel like a platform to prove how clever they are instead of a conversation.
