“Hey Wisecrack. Love the show. When you guys started discussing regulations of companies, it made me wonder why you guys never covered Chernobyl. While the show on its surface appears to just hate on communism. There is also a subtlety in the discussion of accountability and the balance between stakeholders on accountability.
If the government is ultimately accountable for regulating everything, then every mistake is ultimately its fault. However if private corporations and even people are responsible for regulating themselves then we either end up with a tragedy of the commons situation or a disaster like the BP oil spill, or more recently the Boeing 737 situation.
This is a major issue in the U.S. regulatory agencies are being short. Funded or barred from pursuing important enforcement activities, or even forced to outsource the work to private companies. So when they look ineffective that just bolsters the argument that regulation doesn’t work. Regulation and accountability is a balancing act.
I’m sure there are other films out there that may contrast Chernobyl (maybe the Big short) but I’d be interested in seeing an analysis of this from you guys.
Love the show guys! keep it up.”
