Description
Friends of the Rosary, The Church celebrates the Solemnity of Our Lord Jesus Christ, King of the Universe, or Christ the King, on the last Sunday of each liturgical year. This feast reminds us that while governments come and go, Christ reigns as King forever. In 1925, with his encyclical Quas Primas (“In the First”), Pope Pius XI instituted this solemnity as an antidote to secularism and atheism, responding to a way of life that leaves God out of man's thinking and living and organizing his life as if God did not exist. The feast proclaims Christ's royalty over individuals, families, societies, governments, and nations. Today's Mass establishes: 1) Christ is God, the Creator of the universe, and hence wields supreme power over all things; "He created all things"; 2) Christ is our Redeemer; he purchased us by His precious Blood and made us His property and possession; 3) Christ is Head of the Church, "holding in all things the primacy"; 4) God bestowed upon Christ the world's nations as His special possession and dominion. The Mass also describes the qualities of Christ's kingdom. This kingdom is: 1) Supreme, extending not only to all people but also to their princes and kings; 2) Universal, extending to all nations and all places; 3) Eternal, for "The Lord shall sit a King forever"; 4) Spiritual, Christ's "kingdom is not of this world." Let's pray that the world encounters Christ the King! The Ave Maria! Jesus, I Trust In You! Come, Holy Spirit, come!
